Reading Terminal Market is running to be named “the number one market in America ” for the second year in a row.
The market is one of the many highlights of the Philadelphia area, housing around 70 different restaurants and businesses.
USA Today is running the poll to see which market has what it takes to be the best.
Store owner, Alex Spataro is confident Reading Terminal Market will take the prize again this year.
“It’s an award we won before, and it’s one that quite frankly we should win again.”
Spataro says the market’s efforts to function during Covid are one of the reasons why it should keep the top spot.
“We lived through now COVID, we were able to stay operable and provide fresh foods to local customers and tourists alike. While providing much needed food and resources for the vaccination efforts across the street. We’ve been through it all.”
Reading Terminal Market is not just a place where you can eat different varieties of food, it’s also a place where people around the world come to tour and explore.
Store owner of Tambayan, Kathy Mirano commented about the market’s effect on tourism.
“Reading Terminal is very common with all public people here, local, tourists, everybody. They love to come here because it’s a historic building in Philadelphia.”
Customer Tyrone Rice believes the rich history of the market makes it number one.
“It’s beautiful because it’s a part of Philadelphia history. We got a lot of history going on a lot of different things.”
