Homecoming is a time that unites any school together. Whether you’re new on campus as a freshman, or a senior who wishes they could experience four more Homecomings, this time of year is anticipated by all.
One of the many events Temple hosts during Homecoming Week is the Homecoming Pageant, which is an event that ultimately crowns a Homecoming King and Queen. The pageant will take place this Thursday, September 22, in Room 200 at the Student Center from 8 pm to 10 pm. You may cast a vote anytime between now and Thursday night at 8 pm via Owl Connect. You can also see all your nominees and a little biography about each one on Owl Connect.
Speaking of nominees, let’s learn a little bit more about some of Temple’s future royalty. There are a total of 7 candidates, and each one would be perfect for the part.
Sydnee Jacques:
First up, Sydnee Jacques. Sydnee is a senior from North Wales, PA and is a Psychology major with a Spanish minor. She is very grateful for attending Temple because of the diversity and productiveness in the student body, and the amount of pride everyone has for our Owls. Something you may not know about Sydnee, is she is a proud First Generation American citizen!
Anh Nguyen:
Our next nominee is Anh Nguyen, a junior here at Temple, who is from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Ms. Nguyen is double majoring in Journalism and Information Science and Technology. Over the summer, she attended the RNC in Cleveland, Ohio and met former Republican candidate Dr. Ben Carson. Anh loves Temple due to the fact that we have such a wide variety of people on campus.
Luke Frey:
Up next we have Luke Frey, a senior from Shippensburg, PA. Luke is an Media Studies and Productions major, who has a special place in his heart for Temple because of the endless amount of opportunities Philadelphia has to offer, and how well Temple students look out for each other in the world. A special talent Luke has, is he can blow air out of his eye!
Jesse DiLaura:
Our fourth candidate is Jesse DiLaura, a senior from the Paoli, PA. Mr. DiLaura’s major is Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship. Jesse absolutely loves the students here at Temple. Their creativeness and variance are truly what makes Temple the place we’ve come to know and love. In his free time, you can find Jesse beatboxing and throwing down some freestyle rap.
Sarah Driscoll:
Next up is Sarah Driscoll. Sarah is a senior from Pittston, PA who is majoring in Marketing, and in the near future, she will be earning her Certificate in Event Leadership. Although she has many favorite things about Temple, Sarah really loves the encouragement and empowerment this institution gives all it’s students. One may be surprised when they hear that Sarah has never eaten a burger, despite her serious love for food.
Dyymond Whipper-Young:
Dyymond Whipper-Young is our next contestant. Dyymond has lived in an abundant amount of states on the East coast; Maryland, Florida, South Carolina, and New York! She is a junior who is an Advertising major and a Business minor. Dyymond loves Temple for the sense of community and how it raises leaders and innovators. In her free time, Dyymondd enjoys art, and creates sculptures and paintings. She actually made paintings for Fetty Wap, Common, and Cardi B.
Jess Baar:
Last but certainly not least, our final nominee is Jess Baar from Allentown, PA. Jess is a senior, who’s majoring in Advertising on the Copywriting track, and will soon receive her Certificate in Creative Writing. Temple always had Jess’s heart from the moment she first stepped on campus. She has the students, staff, and faculty to thank for her wonderful years here on North Broad Street. One thing you may not know about Jess, is she can beatbox!
Our nominees for Homecoming Royalty all have unique and great qualities, that would really represent our Temple Community well. So make sure to come on out to the pageant at 8pm Thursday night, and vote before it is too late. Best of luck to all the contestants, and Happy Homecoming!
