Temple Announces Full 2021 Football Schedule

On Thursday, the AAC announced its full slate of games for the 2021 football season, which completes the twelve-game regular season schedule for the Owls.

Their schedule, as always, begins with its non-conference slate. First, up for the Owls are the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers. The Owls were supposed to face the Big 10 team from North Jersey last season, but due to COVID-19, it was canceled. Another notable non-conference matchup is the home opener vs Boston College, the first of a three-game homestand after two road games to start the season.

The conference schedule starts with the final game of the aforementioned home stand vs Memphis. This is followed by a road trip to Cincinnati to face the defending AAC champion Bearcats, who finished the season as the #8 ranked team.

Some more notable conference matchups include a home contest vs Houston, who the Owls haven’t played since 2018, and the season finale which will take place Thanksgiving weekend as the Owls hosts Navy.

Head Coach Rod Carey is coming into his third season as the Owls’ bench boss. Carey’s 2019 team finished 8-5, with a blowout loss in the Military Bowl. Last year his team finished just 1-6, going winless on the road to finish second to last in the AAC. The Owls made a bowl appearance for 5 consecutive years until last season. Coach Carey is eager to get this program back to its winning ways:

“I’m really excited about the schedule we have right in front of us with lifting and spring ball. I really value the time we spend together as a team, more so now than ever. I’m going to take this one step at a time but this adds something for us – our team, our fans, and our university – to look forward to as we all still struggle with the pandemic.”

The Owls have six games scheduled at home and on the road each, with a bye week placed right in between in week 7. The AAC championship game will take place on December 4th.
