Temple Announces Plans and COVID-19 Testing Expansion For Spring 2021 Semester

Temple University has announced their class plans as well as a more ambitious and comprehensive COVID-19 testing program for the Spring 2021 semester on Monday.

The university said in an email to the Temple community that Spring 2021 will be mainly online but there will be a larger selection of courses offered in-person or in a hybrid format as compared to Fall 2020. Residence halls, Charles Library, the TECH Center, Campus Recreation and other services will be available as well.

The Spring 2021 course catalog will be posted on Monday, November 2 and class registration will begin on Monday, November 16.

Also announced was a large expansion to the COVID-19 testing program on-campus.

Any student who lives in a residence hall or is enrolled in an on-campus class will be tested for the virus twice a week for the entire semester.

Any student who lives directly off-campus in North Philadelphia is eligible to be tested once a week during the semester, even if they are not enrolled in an on-campus class.

Faculty and staff who interact with students are also eligible to be tested twice a week.

Earlier in October, the university canceled spring break and moved the semester’s start date back by eight days. Classes were supposed to start on Monday, January 11. They now start on Tuesday, January 18.

This is a developing story and will be updated with new information as it becomes available.
