Temple Celebrates Philanthropy Day

Giving Tuesday and National Philanthropy Day events allowed students to donate to Temple and celebrate giving back.

National Philanthropy Day takes place nation-wide on Nov. 15, but was postponed on campus due to bad weather.

However, both events were still celebrated despite the rain on Tuesday.

“We’re really encouraging people to really learn about what philanthropy is. Learning that a lot of tuition is covered by private support,” Assistant Director for Annual Giving, Sarah Cassidy said.

Students, staff, and faculty posted ways they give back to the community on an “impact board” even if this is through social services like volunteering or mentoring.

For Giving Tuesday, student callers reached out to faculty, staff, and alumni to make financial donations to support different areas at Temple like scholarships, athletics, research, and more.

“A lot of alumni, whatever resonated with them when they were a student they are going to want to give back to that or if they feel passionate about helping the students now they can give scholarships it’s really limitless what they can give to,” Assistant Director, Programs and Initiatives, Blake Piper said.

Students can post their donations on social media using #GivingTuesday
