Temple Comes Up Short Against City Rival Drexel

The Temple Owls hosted city rival Drexel Sunday afternoon at Howarth Field. In an evenly-matched game, Drexel took home the win with a score of 3-1. Temple led 6-2 with shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of the game. During this time, both teams had good defensive saves keeping all shots out of the cages.

With 11 minutes left in the first half, senior Jessica McCarthy scored the first goal of the game for Drexel on an offensive corner, as were the following two goals for the Dragons.

Temple managed to keep the ball in their offensive circle with 5 minutes remaining in the first half. Junior Hattie Kuhns scored the first goal of the game for the Owls, tying the score 1-1. Almost 4 minutes later, right before the buzzer sounds for halftime, Idrienne Walker scored for the Dragons to bring the halftime score to 2-1.

Drexel’s defensive players gained stability only allowing Temple to make 4 shots on goal, compared to the Owls’ 11 shots in the first half of the game. In the final 3 minutes of the game, the Owls pulled their goalie in order to gain an additional field player.

With 2 minutes remaining, the Dragons’ played out their final offensive corner as Megan Wiest managed to score their third goal.

The final score of the game was 3-1 leaving the Owls with an overall record of 1-5.

Temple will Providence in their next home match this Friday, September 16 at 6:05pm on Howarth Field.
