Temple Volleyball got their fifth consecutive win against an undefeated SMU team Sunday afternoon.
Both teams came out fighting for the win, and Temple’s teamwork ultimately decided the match. In the first set, it was a back and forth until Temples’ offense pulled them ahead to a victory with a score of 25-19. Just like the first, the second set was back and forth, but with consistent offense, the Owls won the second set 25-23. SMU rallied their way back in the game winning both the third and fourth set with scores of 21-25 and 19-25. It all came down to the tie breaking fifth set where, again, Temple’s offensive and defensive skills came in to play. The Owls won the fifth set with a score of 15-9 that landed them the victory against SMU.
There was a great team performance during this match, but there also were many great individual performances. Junior Irem Asci lead the team with 19 kills and 17 digs. Junior Izzy Rapacz also had an outstanding performance with 12 kills, 9 digs and 4 blocks. Senior Kyra Coundourides played a stellar game with 47 assists and 18 digs.
Temple Volleyball gave SMU their first conference loss of the season bringing Temple’s record to 12-4 overall, 5-1 in conference play. The Owls next game will be Friday against USF at 7PM in McGonigle Hall.
