Thomas and Matakevich Named to Maxwell’s Watch List

In another recognition of Temple’s stellar start to the season, Jahad Thomas and Tyler Matakevich represented both the offense and defense on Maxwell’s weekly “Who’s Hot” watch last.

Both are coming off impressive games against AAC foe Cincinnati. Thomas racked up 342 all-purpose yards a new AAC record. His performance included a kick return for a touchdown and 193 rushing yards, along with a running touchdown. The award comes after Thomas’ second straight 100 yard rushing performance to start the season.

Matakevich also made the list with his clutch play. With the Bearcats inside the 10 and threating to score in the final seconds, Matakevich brought down a tipped ball for an interception, his second of the night, to seal the road victory. This led to his second straight AAC Defensive Player of the Week honor. Along with the two picks, Matakevich also wrapped up defenders all night, totaling 13 tackles.

The list brings more national recognition for the Cherry and White. Already garnering votes for a Top-25 spot, Thomas and Matakevich made list along with several Heisman Trophy contenders, such as Georgia’s Nick Chub.

The two standouts will look to continue their success this Saturday at UMass at 3:00. While an easier matchup on paper, you’re sure to see these Owls flying around the field all day.
