A fire at the Greater Bible Way Temple on the 1400 block of North 52nd Street is ongoing as firefighters battle to keep the blaze under control.
One person was hospitalized after the fire started this afternoon, with the church structure starting to collapse since the fire began.
Reports indicate that the church was undergoing repairs to its roof when the fire broke out. Amateur video shows what appears to be a repairman on the roof of the structure shortly before the blaze broke out.
The church is a common ally to West Philadelphia neighbors, offering nighttime food pantries as well as daycare for surrounding children in the neighborhood.
