Women’s Basketball Eyeing NCAA Tournament

With an 18-9 record this season that leaves them third in the American Athletics Conference standings, the Temple women’s basketball team has the NCAA Tournament in its sight.

Sophomores Alliya Butts and Tanaya Atkinson, and junior Feyonda Fitzgerald have had much to do with the team’s success, with all three averaging 12 points per game. Despite the trio’s leadership on the court, Head Coach Cardoza stresses how important it is that the owls play as a team.

“At any given time, all five guys out on the floor are capable of scoring for us,” said Cardoza. “My guys are always going to fight to the end because that’s who we are, we’re fighters.”

The Owls did indeed have to fight for the win Tuesday night when Tulane cut the team’s lead by scoring two three-pointers late into the game.

Temple only has two conference games left to play before the AAC championship on March 4th and the team will need the strength of the trio to get them there.
