The Leaders of Men’s Cross Country

Matt Kacyon and Alex Izewksi are the unquestioned leaders of the Men’s Cross Country Team. The two form a dominate 1-2 punch at the front of the pack, as they have finished as the top two Owls in the last 11 races.

However, their close finishes did not start in Philadelphia. In the 2009 Pennsylvania High School State Cross Country Championships, Kacyon beat out Izewkski by one second, placing 8th. Neither knew of each other at time, but are pushing each other further then they’ve ever gone.

Travis Mahoney was the last Owl to compete in the NCAA Championships in 2012. Coach James Snyder said of the two, “They’re gunning for spots at the national meet in six weeks. They both deserve to be in that conversation.”

Reporter Dan Ray sits down with two members of Temple’s cross country team to discuss the progress they’ve made this season, the benefits of training and racing side by side, and the possibility of representing the team at nationals.
