Temple Police sent out additional information via TU Alert Wednesday morning at 7am on the assault and robbery of 81-year-old Professor Gopalakrishnan Veeraswamy in Anderson Hall the previous day. The assault took place between 11:20-50am on Tuesday. Police say the suspect entered Veeraswamy’s office, punched him in the face and demanded his wallet at knifepoint. After acquiring the wallet, the suspect struck Veeraswamy and fled.

Veeraswamy was taken to the hospital, having suffered lacerations to the face and bleeding in the brain, he is currently in stable condition. The wallet was recovered by authorities, and is being tested for fingerprints. As a result of the incident, security in Anderson Hall has been enhanced.

In contrast to the first TU Alert sent out Tuesday which said the suspect was wearing tan pants and a tan shirt, the video reveals the suspect was wearing a dark grey sweatshirt and jeans. He is described as a 35-40 year old, 6-foot African-American male, with a mustache and short beard. Temple Police are actively pursuing the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Temple University Police at 1-1234 or Philadelphia Police at 911.
