The Owls took on the Villanova Wildcats at the Liacouras Center Feb. 1 but fell short of a win with a final score of 90-74. With over 10,000 at the Liacouras Center, the game was a heart-wrencher.
The Wildcats led by as many as 12 points before Will Cummings and the Temple offense went on fire and tied the game up at 25 on a 12-0 run. With 2:42 left in the first half, Villanova got hot from beyond the arc, but the Owls kept it close shooting 4 for 4 at the line.
The Wildcats went into the second half leading 36-31 after Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) drained one at the buzzer.
As the second half got started, two three-pointers by Dalton Pepper were the only made-baskets for the Owls as the Wildcats took a 22 point lead in the first nine minutes. The Owls would not get closer than 15 points until the final minute. However they fell short of a win going on to lose by a final score of 90-74.
The Owls will take on the Southern Methodist Mustangs at the Crum Basketball Center on Thursday Feb. 6.
