Philadelphia Mosque Victim to Possible Hate Crime

An investigation is underway at a Philadelphia mosque after a severed pig’s head was found outside on Monday morning. Pigs head found at mosque

Police have obtained surveillance video showing someone throwing the head out of a red pickup truck and landing at the front door of the Al Aqsa Islamic Society. The truck drove by the mosque twice, and the head was thrown out during the second pass.

The Quran, the religious text of Islam, prevents Muslims from eating pork. Pigs have often been used as a symbol of offense towards the community.

Mayor-elect Jim Kenney released a statement Monday night saying, “The bigotry that has desecrated Al-Aqsa mosque today has no place in Philadelphia.”

No arrests have been made thus far. The Philadelphia Police Department will increase patrols around worship sites as they continue their investigation.
