Temple Volleyball Captures 3rd Straight Win in Sweep

The Temple Owls volleyball team notched their third straight victory Friday over the Wildcats of Villanova at the Palestra to open up the Philadelphia Big 5 Tournament in a sweep.

The Owls started off with a 25-18 victory in the first set of the match. They dominated early in the set as they pulled a 7-1 lead, but Villanova would close the gap as they would go on a 7-1 run to make the score 8-7. The effort would not be enough, as the Owls would go on a 4-1 run to take a 12-8 lead, and a 6-1 run to close out the set.

The key set of the night would be the second set which was the closest set of the night as the Temple would hold off Villanova 27-25. The set seen 5 lead changes, and 4 ties. This would also be the only set that Villanova had led in all night as they had a 6-4 lead over the Owls early in the set.

The third and final set also ended in a two point victory by the Owls. Though Villanova stayed within one throughout the whole set, the Wildcats were never able to take the lead, though they tied the game at 24.

It was another solid performance from Junior Irem Asci who had her 2nd double-double of the day with 14 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore Mia Heirakuji would lead the team in digs with 12, and sophomore Iva Deak led the way in blocks with 4.

The Temple Owls will be back in action at La Salle at 11:00, then against Penn at 5:00.
