TSG Elections 2016: Believe in TU

A group of students that isn’t TSG-bred is running for the top office in the Temple Community.

Believe in TU is made up of John Jasionowicz, running for Student-Body President, Alex Waldron, Vice President of Services and Deja Lighty, Vice President of External Affairs.

All team members believe their professional experience outside of the university will help them accomplish they goals for Temple’s student body.

The team hopes to unify the student body through providing more allocations for student organizations on campus, working to have gender-neutral facilities on campus – namely gender neutral bathrooms in every building – and providing more support for veterans in the Temple community. Lighty holds the mental health portion of their platform close to her heart. She hopes to provide more awareness and support to the Tuttleman Counseling Services and other mental health services Temple offers.

“I want to make sure that those [mental health services] are available, that people are aware of it and that we can educate freshman as soon as they come in,” said Lighty.

Believe in TU hopes to make use of the university’s alumni relationships to create a mentor program between current students and graduates in their field.

“You need more mentors than just professors at college, you need people in the field today that are really willing to help you get your foot in the door,” said Waldron.

When it comes to the major issues currently facing the university, Presidential hopeful Jasiovowicz looks at it from an engineering perspective. He believes if they can make the logistics work and have a good plan for parking in place, the stadium could bring lots of revenue and jobs into the community.

The teams full platform can be found here, and if you are a current student at Temple University, you can vote in the Temple Student Government Election on uvote.temple.edu. Votes can be cast March 29-30 and the winner will be announced March 31.
